Introducing Market Mapping

Today we are launching Market Mapping in beta: a new search mode that maps the combined talent pool at one to five companies in a single view.
Name the companies in plain language and Wrangle plans the pull the way a colleague would: it resolves each name to the exact company, pulls up live headcount, funding, and hiring data, and writes back a full search plan covering scope, location, role focus, and your must-have criteria. Nothing runs until you approve it. Confirm, and it maps the entire employee pool, scoring every person against the brief with evidence attached. It is the fastest way we know to answer the question every recruiter eventually asks: who actually works at the companies we hire from?
What is market mapping in recruiting?
Market mapping is the practice of building a complete picture of the talent at a defined set of companies before you start reaching out. Instead of running keyword searches and hoping the right people surface, you pick the companies that produce the kind of talent you hire, then look at everyone there who fits your bar.
Recruiters have always done this by hand: a spreadsheet of target companies, hours of profile browsing, and a tab graveyard. Market Mapping in Wrangle does the same work in one search.
How Market Mapping works in Wrangle
Market Mapping is a mode inside normal Wrangle Sourcing. Here is the whole flow:
- Start a new search and pick Market Mapping from the mode toggle.
- Name one to five companies in plain language, with an optional location or role focus. "Map the ML engineers at Anthropic and Databricks in the Bay Area" is a complete brief.
- Wrangle resolves every company you name and shows one confirmation chip per company, backed by a live company card: headcount, total raised, revenue, open roles, and traffic. If a name is ambiguous, it asks which company you mean instead of guessing. Nothing runs until you confirm the plan.
- The search returns up to 1,000 people per pull, hard-filtered to exactly the companies you confirmed. Fetch more pulls the next thousand.
- Every candidate is evaluated against your criteria progressively as you scroll, with the same scored, evidence-backed profiles as any Wrangle search. Shortlist, hide, or save to a Collection as you go.
Three details worth knowing:
- Scope is explicit. Map current employees, former employees only ("alumni of Stripe"), or anyone who has ever worked there. If you do not say, Wrangle asks once.
- Location is a hard filter, not a suggestion. An unconstrained map is global; a stated location cuts everything else.
- It does not spend credits. Market Mapping is part of standard in-app sourcing on every plan whose sources include Wrangle's profile database.
Why mapping beats searching cold
A keyword search starts from words on profiles. A market map starts from a judgment you have already made: these companies produce people who succeed here. That single constraint does a surprising amount of work.
| Cold keyword search | Market map | |
|---|---|---|
| Starting point | Words candidates wrote | Companies you trust |
| Coverage | Whoever matched the phrasing | Everyone at the target companies |
| Pool boundary | Fuzzy, changes per query | Exact, confirmed company by company |
| Best for | Broad discovery | Deliberate, repeatable pipelines |
The mapping approach compounds. The map you build for one role becomes the starting pool for the next one, and saving the strongest people to a Collection means the work persists instead of dying in a browser tab. Funds use the same motion to build operator networks across a portfolio; agencies use it to walk into a client meeting already knowing the market.
What Market Mapping is not
Market Mapping returns people, not analysis. It is not a competitor list, an industry report, or an org-chart reconstruction. If you need to understand a market's companies, that is research; if you need the talent inside those companies, that is a map.
Getting started
Market Mapping is rolling out in beta now. It appears in the new-search mode toggle whenever your search sources include Wrangle's profile database, on every plan tier. Beta means we are still refining it: behavior and limits can change, and if you hit a rough edge we want to hear about it.
Open a new search, switch the mode to Market Mapping, and name the companies you have always wanted to see inside.
